10 artsy things in Dallas-Fort Worth to do with kids this summer

The DFW metroplex is a great place to raise children. And we have made it to the summer break, let's make the best of it. Texas heat can be brutal, so here are some entertaining, educational and artistic alternatives to other summer classics like splash pads and indoor playgrounds... And what do people even do with older kids or teens? Art to the rescue!

1. Dallas Museum of Art: there are things to do with children almost every day in the summer -- this is DFW's largest art museum after all (and one of the largest in the country!). There are baby classes on Mondays and toddler classes on Tuesdays, summer camps for older kids on several dates throughout the summer months, family tours and patio Fridays with music and games (and cocktails for parents). For more info, click here.

2. Connect & Create at the Meadows: on June 3, July 1 and August 5 from 10:30 to 11:30, children and their parents are invited to create together at the Meadows Museum of Spanish art. There will be a story time by Highland Park Library and an art project facilitated by SMU students

3. Art at NorthPark Center is always there and always free, and you kind of always need to go to the mall, right? Just that this one makes every shopping run a little more special. Grab an art map at the entrance and discover all the pieces together with your kids. And take photos, of course.

4. Free first Saturdays of the month at the Nasher Sculpture Center are a great way let kids discover their collection and run around the lavish sculpture garden.

5. Plano art & drama summer camp: from May 29 till June 9, 9am-5pm, completely free!

6. Sweet Tooth Hotel in Dallas is a permanent art space that is very Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat worthy. Great for all the teens (and their parents, of course).

7. Kimbell Kids drop-in studio: this is a free workshop taking place every Saturday through the summer for children 12 and younger and accompanying adults with gallery explorations and art projects at the beautiful Kimbell Museum of Art in Fort Worth.

8. Dallas Contemporary stroller tour: Again, a free event and the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with your babies and toddlers. I still remember the time I went there with my little one in 2020... This tour will be taking place at the current exhibit by Shepard Fairey, on July 12, from 10 to 11 am.

9. Saturday crafts in Coppell: another free event (we can't have enough of these) at the Coppell Arts Center, every first Saturday of the month, for children ages 3-12, from 9 am-12 pm.

10. Drawing from the collection for children at the Modern Fort Worth, On June 4 & July 2 at 2 pm, regular ticket prices apply. This is a great way to get to know one of the best modern and contemporary art collections in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Will I see you at any of these?

Talk to you soon,

J.
